A promise to my Son on his 9th Birthday

To my darling Ethan, happy 9th birthday my sweet boy. I say this every year, but I just can't believe you are this age already. Nine years old? That's 3285 days that you have brought joy into my life, and I'm pretty sure I can speak on behalf of others when I say that.
This is the last time that you will ever be in single digit figures! I won't lie, this scares Mummy just a little bit.

I looked back through my memories on Facebook this morning. It took me right back to the moment my life truly began. 5.17am on Friday 16th October 2009, weighing a whopping 9.9 lbs at only 37 weeks.

I am so proud of the boy you have become. I am also proud of me, for raising such a well-mannered, kind hearted and loving human being. The world needs more of this, and I will always continue to do my best by guiding you in the right direction.

As you enter your ninth year, I love how you're still not embarrassed to hold my hand when I reach out for it, or how you still like me to read you a bedtime story before settling  down for the night.

What brings me most happiness is how utterly amazing you are with your little Sister. Your unique qualities are having a positive impact on her. She is wise beyond her 2 years and I believe you have played a big part in this. It is a great comfort in my anxious mind knowing that she has a big Brother like you to look up to.

For four years it was just me and you living on our own as me and your Dad parted ways. Boy it was unbelievably hard at times but I will never forget the independence and confidence it gave me. Those four years will always hold a special place in my heart. We did so much together, you were my little side-kick. And now? .. I have two little side-kicks.

Thank you for showing me the true meaning of un-conditional love, for showing me what it means to work really hard in order to achieve my goals and make both you and your Sister proud.

I know I have my moments where I get on at you but know that I love you and that I will alway's be there for you.
This age will never come again so my birthday promise to you is to be more present in everyday situations, laughing, being silly, and getting more involved in your imaginative games by being a part of them.

My darling Son, here's to another year creating more precious memories.

I love you to infinity and beyond.

Love alway's

Mummy xxx
